MAJOR SCHOLARSHIPS TO STUDY IN INDIA FOR NEPALESE STUDENTS

Many Scholarships opportunities are made available by the Indian Government for Nepalese Students to study UG, PG or PhD courses in Indian Institutions. Besides the Government Scholarships, “merit based fee and or other expenses exemptions” are also available for the same. Such exemptions are mainly provided by individual colleges and universities. Main Scholarships Opportunities can be explained simply as follows :

ICCR – Atal Bihari Vajpayee General Scholarship	UG, PG & PhD	A major Government of India scholarship for Nepalese students to study in Indian universities. Covers many subjects, but generally not Medicine.
Sushma Swaraj Silver Jubilee Scholarship (ICCR/MEA)	PG & PhD	A special scholarship specifically for Nepali citizens. Current 2026–27 allocation is 64 seats: 60 PG + 4 PhD.
COMPEX Scholarship	Bachelor’s	One of the most popular options for Nepalese students. Mainly for Engineering, Agriculture, Food Technology, Nursing and Pharmacy. Selection includes an examination.
Study in India (SII)	UG, PG & PhD	A Government of India platform through which foreign students apply to participating Indian institutions. SII itself does not provide one universal scholarship; participating universities may offer 10%–100% tuition fee waivers/scholarships.
AYUSH Scholarship	UG/PG in Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, Homeopathy	For students interested in India’s traditional medical systems. Nepalese students can apply under the relevant ICCR/AYUSH scheme.
Lata Mangeshkar Scholarship	Music, Dance & Performing Arts	For students wishing to study Indian music, dance and related performing arts in India.
Homi J. Bhabha Scholarship	ME/M.Tech	Special opportunity for Nepalese students interested in Master’s-level Engineering/Technology.
Nepal Aid Fund Scholarship	M.Sc. Agriculture	For Nepalese students wishing to pursue Master’s in Agriculture in India.
SAARC Scholarship	Hospitality & Hotel Management	Opportunity for Nepalese students for B.Sc. Hospitality & Hotel Management.
FRI Scholarship	Forestry & related fields	Scholarship for M.Sc. Forestry and allied programmes at the Forest Research Institute.
ITEC	Professional/technical training	Government-funded training and capacity-building programmes in areas such as IT, management, science, banking and other professional fields. It is generally short-term training rather than a normal bachelor’s scholarship.
JEE Main	Engineering admission	Not a scholarship. It is an entrance examination used for admission to NITs, IIITs and other engineering institutions.
JEE Advanced	IIT admission	Not a scholarship. It is the entrance examination for IITs. Foreign nationals, including Nepalese citizens, can apply under the foreign-national rules.
